Of all the books I have read it is the ones that relate to yoga and spirituality that have touched me in the deepest and most profound way. I am forever grateful to my teachers (in particular my first yoga teacher Leonard) for generously sharing with me such accessible books as B.K.S Iyengar's The Tree of Yoga and Light on Yoga; Joel Kramer's The Passionate Mind and Vyn Bailey's Patanjali's Meditation Yoga. Another great read (that I have read over and over as it is so beautifully crafted) is Paramahansa Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi, recommended to me by another one of my great teachers Simon Borg-Olivier (thank you Simon!). There are of course the yoga classics such as the revered Bhagavad Gita, the Vedas, the Yoga Sutras and the Upanishads, however I have found that it is the combination of reading and interpretation of these texts by modern-day gurus in a face-to-face teaching that provides the most learning and insight into the original (and often highly complex) transcripts. I hope that my selection below will encourage you on your own journey of discovery into the history of yoga and more broadly the spiritual life. There is so much wisdom in these words! Simply click on the image or book title to read more about each of these texts.
