When I first became a mum (actually when I first became pregnant), I reached for the first thing that made sense to me - books! During my first pregnancy with my now 7 year old I devoured anything that could provide any sprinkling of insight into what I may expect in my daunting upcoming role as a new mum - and what I ultimately found in conventional books on motherhood was a level of contradictory information so overwhelming that it became daunting in itself! I did, however, find a great degree of comfort in Kaz Cooke's hilarious Up the Duff: The Real Guide to Pregnancy - an honest, raw account of her pregnancy journey in a diary-style journal that had me laughing so hard I would almost wet my pants (especially in the latter stages of pregnancy!). But seriously, I know first-hand just how difficult it can be to find real and honest accounts of motherhood in bookshops - so here are my shortlisted favourites that I can highly recommend!
