![]() *Padmasana* There was a time in my life when I used to think that if I could ever possibly release my hips enough to achieve Lotus Pose I would know all I need to know about yoga. Boy how wrong I was! I still have a long way to go with this pose (for as my teacher Simon puts it ‘it should be as easy as crossing your arms’) but I can wholeheartedly admit that being able to now comfortably move myself into this posture has not provided any more knowledge or experience to my yoga journey than without it.
What it has helped me with, though, is a nice secure grounding for meditation that I have found difficult to achieve in any other variation. I am a firm believer that the richness of yoga goes far deeper beneath the surface of any external physical posture, no matter how fancy or physically difficult it might be. The postures are so fantastic at connecting us and energising our bodies in a way that encourages us to continue down our path of seeking, and learning, and discovering. I would not say that I am an authority on yoga - but yoga is my authority on life! xx
